A. Herzen: The Emergence of Populist Idea [Intellect Point] [Alexander Shubin]​

The lecture series by the renowned historian A.V. Shubin, "Socialist Idea: From Utopia to Practice," will delve into the evolution of perspectives on an ideal human society superior to capitalism, exploring utopias or "nonexistent places." Possibly, those places don't exist yet. This society has been labeled in various ways: communism, socialism, anarchy, and today some features of past utopias are discussed in relation to the prospect of a post-industrial society.

The lectures will present such notable thinkers as More, Campanella, Proudhon, Marx, Engels, Bakunin, Kropotkin, Mikhailovsky, Lenin, among others; discussing their debates and practical attempts, about Internationals, Paris Commune, "going to the people" and other revolutionary experiences. The lecturer plans to direct listeners' attention primarily to those theoretical ideas from the past that remain relevant even in the 21st century.
